Understanding Shift Statuses

Feb 27, 2025 | by Lindsay Evans

Overview

In the KARE Heroes App, every shift is an opportunity to work, and each shift status helps you understand exactly where you are in the process.

The shift statuses provide clear insights into the entire lifecycle of a shift, from New to Paid. This helps track the shift’s progress, whether it is completed successfully, verified, paid or canceled.

This guide outlines the meaning of each shift status in the KARE HERO app. Whether you are reviewing the progress of a shift or confirming its completion and payment, this guide will help you easily interpret the key information about your shifts.

Active Shifts

Active Shifts are shifts that are in progress of being worked.

Statuses Before the Shift Starts

These statuses occur before the shift begins.
Some of them may require you to take action:

Statuses During the Shift

Below are all the statuses that happen during the shift.

Some statuses will require action by you.

Statuses After the Shift Ends

Below are all the statuses that happen after the shift end time when you have worked the shift. Some statuses will require action by you.

Past Shifts

Past Shifts are shifts in which you had applied at some point. In addition to shift statuses that are Verified or Paid, the shift might have been canceled by yourself or the community. These shifts can be found in My Shifts under the Past tab.

HERO Cancellation Statuses

These are shifts in which you had applied, were approved by the community, and then you confirmed. However, you were not able to work the shift.

Community Cancellation Statuses

These are shifts in which you had applied, were approved by the community, and then you confirmed. However, the community canceled the shift.

Provided shift statuses on the shift cards and details provides transparency, allowing you to track progress and understand your required next steps.

Acknowledging Community Documents – Required Before my Shift

May 3, 2024 | by Lindsay Evans

Overview

If you are working at a Community for the first time, or if the Community has uploaded new documents, you will need to review and acknowledge their orientation materials.

These documents may include:

  • Evacuation safety procedures

  • Resident rights

  • Abuse and neglect policies

  • Other important guidelines

We recommend you to spend some minutes reviewing this information carefully to help ensure a successful and safe work experience.

Acknowledging Community Documents

If this is your first time working at a Community, follow these steps after you confirm your shift:

  1. Tap Confirm to accept the shift

  2. You will see a list of required documents

  3. Tap each document to open and read it all

4. After reading each document, tap the back arrow to return

5. As you read, the document borders will turn orange to show completion

6. Once all documents are highlighted in orange:

    • Check the box confirming you have read them

    • Tap Read and Accept

You are now ready to begin your shift at the Community.

Re-Acknowledging Updated Community Documents

Sometimes, a Community updates its policies or uploads new documents.
In this case, you will be required to review the new materials before confirming your next shift.

The steps will be the same: open, read, and accept all documents before continuing.

Timestamps for Document Acknowledgment

Each time you acknowledge documents, a timestamp will be saved and visible to the Community on your profile.

This helps ensure records are current and accurate.

Viewing Community Documents Later

You may return to review these documents at any time:

This allows you to revisit policies whenever needed.

Checking Into a Shift

Apr 30, 2024 | by Dallas Manaker

Overview

You have been selected for a shift, confirmed your attendance, and acknowledged all Community documents. Now it is time to work and earn money! To ensure accurate tracking and timely payment, all Heroes must check in and check out through the KARE Heroes App. This guide will walk through the check in process step by step.

Tapping “Ready to Go”

Two hours prior to a confirmed shift, you can tap the Ready to Go button located on your shift card in the My Shifts tab.

  • Tap Ready to Go to let the Community know you are preparing to travel

  • This action activates location tracking, allowing the Community to estimate your arrival time

  • You will earn bonus Reliability points for tapping early

Important

If you DO NOT tap Ready to Go, the Community might assume a no-show, and they may repost the shift for different applicants. While we encourage Communities to reach out if you have not signaled your readiness, every Community may handle these situations differently. Therefore, tapping Ready to Go is HIGHLY recommended.

Checking In

Once you arrive at the Community:

  • The KARE Heroes App may automatically check you in based on your location

  • You must have your location services turned on for the app to recognize your arrival

After checking in:

Next Steps

To complete your shift and ensure proper payment, do not forget to check out.
